Bulgrim, Fearless Vampire Hunter

O.k. So this should really by called "Recap for 7/29/07. But I think Bulgrim, Fearless Vampire Hunter, or Bulgrim Saves the day or some other equally impressive title is worthwhile in this case.

So...... lets sum up.

As a party you all just finished the big combat that finished with the death of the Worg rider goblin and then you all went up to 4th level.

You mustered your selves and began searching the once noisy, but now quiet section of the dungeon. While rounding a corner an obvious shamen goblin appeared out of no where and covered Donner with flame. Luckily the mage armor was up so the rays of flame scattered around Donner not affecting him.

At this Donner Charges down the corridor missing the Shamen. Barrett leaps to action and the spiked chain swings over Donners head. Unfortunately the impact being absorbed the the thick armor.

From a doorway two more shamen step out covering Connell in flames giving him blisters and wounds all over his head and chest. The rest of the party is ready to step up and is shouting orders when a group of three sneaky Goblins sneak attack Churchkey in a flanking maneuver.

From here combat is fast and furious. The Shamen on Donner effectively casts a spell putting Donner to sleep. A second Shamen shows up whose rays of flame miss Barrett but char the walls. Connell does some serious damage the the Shamen who scorched him, but realizes they have some magical aid to keep them up and running. Additionally the other shamen heals this shamen. Not to mention the shamen also steps back, quaffs a potion and disappears.

Bulgrim is getting a beat up becuase he is taking 1/2 the damage of Connell and these damn shamen keep dousing him in flame. Meanwhile Churchkey, Bugrim and Pepper are defending the flank from these pesky goblin sneaks.

Barrett finally awakes Donner by forcefully stepping on his head and body. Both Donner and Barrett hear additional combat coming from behind the shamen they are fighting but around the corner.

A couple rounds later two young elves covered in blood jump around the corner. The shamen sandwiched between these two, Donner and Barrett doesn't stand a chance. They defeat the Shamen and another and then are introduced to these fine elves. whom Donner learns know a bit about your party and has been following for a bit. They saw you enter the boat house but with 22 goblins in the city they thought it only proper to come in and help you make you way safely back into Cauldron.

Meanwhile back in the caves. The rest of the party makes easy meat out of the goblins and the last shamen who showed up a couple rounds later. The last Goblin sprints down the cavern screaming at the top of his lungs, "Drokthar!".

Churchkey assess the damage on Connell, throws him an alchemists fire and says, "go get him."

Barret decides to follow and Churchkey sprints slowly behind. After running about 200' you hear the goblin gargle out the last scream and then silence. Connell stops at about the 220' mark and begins scanning/searching. Barret seas a ledge about 10' up and runs, jumps and has is torso and such over the ledge when a Hobgoblin with glowing red eyes seems to appear from know where with a chuckling grin and whacks Connell so hard he is shaken. Connell tries to hit it to no avail. Barrett jumps down and swings the spiked chain clubbing it in the back of the head... the hide of the creature just absorbed the weapon.

Again the Hobgoblin smacks Connell and this time two fangs make a valiant attempt but fail to close upon Connells neck. At this time Churchkey huffs into the cavern and charges the Hobgoblin. Both Barret and Churchkey try for a couple of rounds to affect this thing to no avail. Connell goes running backup to where the party was last.

Meanwhile, Donner introduces these two elves to the rest of the party when they hear Connel running from the darkness looking like he just had his ass handed to him. The group jumps to action moving causiously down the tunnel while Bulgrim heals Connell.

They can hear Barret and Churchkey running for their lives. This Hobgoblin jumps into the frey striking at Churchkey. When one of the elves tries to turn the Hobgoblin and turns to look at him. Moves to attack him and with one very solid whollop so hard he looses a tooth and almost drops the elf.

The Hobgoblin turns his attention back towards Churchkey. Churchkey is bleeding so bad his armor is really more of a sieve. The elf cleric says, "I think it can only be hurt by silver". "Pepper says I think it can only be hurt by magic." At this Churchkeys silver sword has magic weapon cast upon it. Churchkey then promptly drops and begins to make his journey towards death. Then Donner jumps in with a potion of cure moderate wounds and heals 19 HP!

Meanwhile Bulgrim is desperately trying to turn this thing but to no avail. Connel and some others have nicked it but it healed and began dealing its deadly strike. Connel, Barrett and Churchkey all made a shield for Bulgrim while he tried desperately to turn this horror of the caves. On his last turn of the day the totality of Bulgims mighty god came through and smote this undead horror. Shattering it to dust. Bulgrim saves the day. Because of his feats and Domains the creature is forever shattered to dust, never to haunt the lives of others.

The party then made its way back to the city to rest. They met with Orak who was ashamed of his actions. Churchkey refused Oraks payment to help rid the rest of the goblins and for saving him from being under such a terrible curse. Orak has given the party free bath privileges for years to come.

Bolgrim and Churckkey speak to some Church leaders and Donner goes weapon shopping for silvered items.

The party descends searching the rest of the caves. They find very little else with the exception of some strange octopus like creatures. With that the party begins descending deeper into the caves. Towards the area they found the Hobgoblin.

This is as far as you have explored. The party encountered the Hobgoblin basically between the 50' and 55' mark in the dead center of this map.

Game recap

Great job today. A lot happened so lets see if I can sum up properly.

After coming out of the pits of the Malachite Fortress and Jzadirune. You spent the next couple of weeks getting back into the usual grind of normalcy. People went back to work. People trained etc. You are all basically local heroes for the short time (we all know people have short memories). For these two weeks, you got a lot of free booze and some free meals.

You also went on a selling spree and made a good deal of cash for everyone. people went a shopping and Church Key got some great armor. others bought some minor magic, but basically it was improvements to armor and weapons. Some were basic (leather to chain) others a little more dramatic. Dagger to Spiked chain. Yet others stayed with their tried and true... they just made them masterwork.

In your dealings you found out that there has been some rustling among the social elite about the Stormblades feeling a bit put out. The Stormblades being an adventuring party made of the children of the aristocracy. Currently the Stormblades have been sent to investigate what is going on with all the animal issues (baboons, snakes etc.)

When this whole graffiti problem came up. You were contacted and asked to look into it since some guards caught a group of goblins doing the graffiti. The grafiti was mostly goblin swear words but some times they would say things like, "Drakthar owns this" or, "Hail Drakthar, lord of the rats".

Skellerang (Captain of the Town Guard), by the permission of the acting Lord Mayor Vhalantru, has hired your party to rid this town of the goblins and find out where they are coming from. 5gp a goblin as a reward.

Hunting down some gobbers was pretty fast. You found some on your first night. You caught them writing, "Cage makers! This is" when combat ensued. The goblins were quickly over matched and ran for their lives. Barrett was able to follow one and track it to Orak's Bathhouse. In the mean time the rest of the party was able to kill two and knock out two of the other goblins. bringing in the unconsciousness members for questioning, it became quite apparent that they were under some sort of enchantment. Pepper made some kick ass knowledge arcana and determined that indeed it was enchantment and a really powerful one at that.

The following day the party watches Orak's Bathhouse and notices that there are some strange humans wandering around the Bathhouse. Approaching them, Churchkey notes that they are evil. When the party is preparing the humans change into 1/2 rat creatures. One giant rat scuttles from under a cart and transforms into a 1/2 human. The fight that ensues is huge. They can take obscene amounts of damage. Connal is able to blast through their damage resistance a few times. Donner makes the jump to fire damage with his fists. It takes a long time but eventually the rat creatures are defeated. One, however turns into a rat and gets away.

You all get ready to enter Orak's when behind the door Orak makes a very angry showing about you not getting in. He does not detect evil but also does not waver from his stance about you getting into his bathhouse.

You get a battering ram and take down his door. He greets you with combat. Although stacking a relatively large number of hit points. You drop him, tie him up and send him off to be questioned.

A quick search brings up some relatively new construction and some stairs that descend 30 feet down. You hear noises and graffiti is everywhere. A prominent set of graffiti says, "Drakthar is dead! Long live Drakthar!"

Strangely, you find some empty rooms with some cots neatly put in the corner with wool blankets folded at the foot of each cot. After a bit of investigation some Goblins who were quite adept at hiding jumped out of a storage locker adjacent to the room with the cots. They made a painful and notable hit on Barrett with a crossbow. The fight ensues. Many goblins come from different directions attracted by the noise and light. One looked more like a leader wielding two weapons and riding a worg.

Combat ends and you are searching the bodies.... the adventure will continue from this point.
